St Patty’s Day Treat

Posted by: nkellerator on: March 13, 2009

This year I am attempting to make Irish soda bread for St Patrick’s day. I have made many breads before, quick and yeast, however, I have never attempted to make a bread that has the consistency of a yeast bread, but uses its rising powers from baking soda. The nice thing about this bread is that you don’t have to wait for it to ferment, so you can make it in the morning for breakfast. I also love the hearty flavor and texture, and its ability to either be savory or sweet. I put cream cheese and jam on mine for a nice breakfast treat, but I imagine that it would be delicious with cheese or smoked salmon as well. I found this great recipe that was easy to make and quite delicious!
